Real or Fake? How to Spot Genuine Escort Profiles in the Age of AI

Earlier this year we wrote about how artificial intelligence is changing the luxury companionship market. One side effect is less glamorous: fake profiles have become far more convincing. AI image tools can create flawless photos of people who do not exist, and chatbots can hold a fluent conversation in any language, around the clock. For clients, that means a higher risk of deposit scams. For genuine companions, it means competing with fakes and having to prove they are real. Here is how both sides can respond.

How AI fakes are used

  • Synthetic photos: entirely generated images, or real photos altered to change a face or body.
  • Stolen identities: real companions' photos copied to fake profiles in other cities, sometimes "enhanced" with AI.
  • Chatbot conversations: automated replies that keep the target engaged until a deposit is paid.
  • Deepfake video or voice: used to "verify" a fake identity, or to harass or blackmail real people.

For clients: how to spot a fake

Look closely at the photos

  • AI images are often too perfect: flawless skin, studio lighting in every shot and identical expressions.
  • Check hands, ears, jewellery, text and backgrounds, where generation errors still appear.
  • Look for consistency across photos: the same tattoos, moles and features from different angles.
  • Run a reverse image search. If the photos appear under different names in different cities, walk away.

Test the conversation

  • Ask a specific question about the city or the meeting place. Fakes often answer vaguely or change the subject.
  • Be wary of instant replies at all hours, overly flattering language and pressure to pay quickly.
  • A short phone call is still one of the best checks.

Follow the money

The clearest sign of a scam is a deposit requested through gift cards, crypto only or a third party, followed by additional "fees". A genuine companion's deposit policy is clear, consistent and stated on the profile.

For companions: how to prove you are real

  • Consistency: use the same working name, photos and contact details across the sites you advertise on, so clients can cross-check.
  • Recent, natural photos: include at least one unretouched, everyday photo alongside professional ones.
  • Verification photos: some companions share a photo holding a handwritten note with the date and their working name on request. Consider whether this suits your privacy.
  • Watermarks: a discreet watermark makes it harder for scammers to reuse your images.
  • Monitor copies: search for your photos regularly and report fake profiles.
  • Be clear about payments: state your deposit policy on your profile and never ask for gift cards.

Deepfakes and intimate image abuse

Creating or sharing sexual deepfakes of real people without consent is increasingly a crime. In England and Wales, for example, sharing intimate images without consent, including manipulated images, is an offence. If you are targeted, save the evidence, report it to the platform and the police, and use StopNCII.org to help prevent the images from spreading.

What directories can and cannot do

Escorts Guide is a directory for independent adults. We review ads and act on reports, but as our terms explain, we do not verify every advertiser's identity, age or claims. That is why your own checks matter. If you find a profile using stolen or fake images, or one that worries you for any reason, please report it through our contact page.

Checklist

  1. Reverse-search the photos.
  2. Look for consistency across images and sites.
  3. Ask a specific question, or make a short call.
  4. Never pay with gift cards.
  5. Report fakes so they can be removed.

Frequently asked questions

Are verification photos safe for companions?

They can expose more than intended. If you provide one, crop it carefully, remove metadata and send it only to clients who have passed your screening.

Can AI-generated profiles be reported?

Yes. If you think a profile on Escorts Guide uses AI-generated or stolen images, report it through our contact page and we will review it.

Is a video call proof a profile is real?

It helps, but deepfake video is improving. Combine it with other checks: consistency across sites, a phone call and a clear payment policy.
